 |
United Way of Bruce Grey is an umbrella organization that supports many agencies. For some of these agencies, the money raised by the United Way is their only source of funds.
We offer and efficient multi-pronged approach ensuring your donation dollars reaches and stretches as far as possible.
The United Way dollars raised stay in the community to support the community. United Ways abide by its Statement of Principles of Donors' Rights and its Cost of Fundraising Guidelines. |

List of Fun-d-raising Ideas
1. Spirit of Community- essay contest (during campaign period) try to involve schools and charge a minimal entry fee- have someone collect, judge & submit to newspaper
2. Parades & trade shows with display and collection box
3. 50/50 nights- Fire departments
4. Golf Tournaments- arranged and managed with proceeds to United Way of Bruce Grey or an across the broad Golf Day for United Way that would involve people who are inclined to golf on a specific day at courses of their preference
5. Tricycle races- on Ice, wet grass at race track
6. National Casual Day- Third Friday in November.
7. Frisbee Toss - held at a hockey game during break between periods a kiddy pool is set up at centre ice and people pay to aim/throw a frisbee in the pool at centre ice. Prizes could be the likes of specially designated frisbees i.e.: pizza, tickets etc or this could be done on a 50/50 of the proceeds basis. Supplies required are minimal a kiddy pool, frisbees.(another aspect would be to have United Way logo imprinted on ice surface)
8. Fun Olympics and corporate challenges where creativity rules and companies enter teams and compete for prestige as fun minded companies/corporations (the benefits to companies or moral boosting and unity)
9. Jail Bail: persons are held captive until a certain $ value is raised or pay a fee to be released or find someone to trade places with them, this can be in jail cell, on roof tops etc.

11.Rent-a-boss: employees bid on services provided by management or supervisors
12.Beard Growing Contest: pledge the clean shave to "rough it for a few weeks"
13.Lose-your-locks: pledge participants to cut their hair or shave their head (or males wax their legs)
14.Raffle Preferred Parking Spots: winner gets to park in VIP parking space
15.Casual or color or theme days
16.Job Exchange: highest bidder gets to trade positions with his/her supervisor
17.Art for Charity: local artists who have decided they want proceeds to benefit community where they live and have designated a percentage of proceeds of sales in exchange for affiliation and marketing benefits
18.Kick off with a noon hour BBQ, or Pizza party lunch
19.Corporate Challenge: Hold a parking lot "mini" corporate challenge where teams compete in creative contests. Charge a team fee with barbecue and trophies.
20.Mini Putt: Place 18 numbered paper cups sideways throughout the office and have employees "pay to play". Award small prizes to the winners.
21.Heritage cook book & lunch Have employees bring in heritage recipes and type into a Company cook Book, then sell them at a luncheon where employees bring examples of their items for a pot luck lunch.
22.Car Wash Hold a noon hour employee car wash and combine it with a BBQ with proceeds to United Way.
23.Office Garage Sale- Have employees clean out their basements and bring in items for an onsite garage/yard sale.
24.Silent Auction - place donated items on a visible table with container beside each. Give employees "Bid Slips" for items and after one week, open containers. The person bidding the highest gets it for their bid.
25.Pie Throw this is always a fun event "to get the boss" or fellow employees. Pies to be purchased and proceeds to United Way.
26.Pancake Breakfast- Have employees bring their griddles and fry pans and cook up some fun.
27.Elevator Toll Have a one-day charge to use the elevator or stairs and sell or distribute United Way stickers.
28.Paper Clip Sculptures- find out who's a budding artist and display and judge creations.
29.Breakfast In a Bag , the likes of a muffin, bagel or fruit to sell at entrance to workplace for United Way.
30.Airplane Toss This works best in office with multiple floors that over look a lobby. Place prizes on floor and the person who throws their plane closes wins the prize. Or an alternative is to have employees throw paper planes through a hula-hoop.
31.Balloon Pop Luck Blow up balloons and place a numbered ticket in each balloon. Sell balloons. They will then pop the balloon and win the prize related to the ticket.
32.Bingo Hold a bingo in a meeting room during lunch. Try and have a senior management act as caller.
33.Candy Grams Sell candy grams to employees for a quarter or two and deliver them on the last day of your campaign. Bulk barn sells a wide variety of candies.
34.Chili lunch cook off invite employees to bring in a batch of their best chili. Then have coworkers judge each chili based on taste, texture and fire value. Then offer dishes off chili for a price to all employees for lunch.
35.Email Bingo Email bingo can take place throughout the day unlike traditional bingo. Sell bingo cards to email users. Sporadically throughout the day, call out bingo numbers using email. The first email user to get bingo should then notify everyone that they have a bingo.
36.Flea Market and Book Sale Arrange for staff to donate used articles such as books, toys for your flea market and book sale. Have volunteers price, sort and set up display tables.
37.Fortune Teller/Palm Reader Recruit executives to disguise themselves as fortunetellers or palm readers and read staff fortune or have an authentic palm reader who will donate her services.
38.Carnival style games set up an old-fashioned carnival games such as a ring toss, fishpond and balloon dart throw. Prior to the carnival game ask staff to donate old stuffed animals as prizes.
39.Ice-cream Social offer employees the opportunity to build their own sundae. Have a selection of ice cream available as well as different types of toppings.
40.Penny contest this event can last the duration of your campaign. Have each department compete to collect the most pennies. Determine penny count winners while counting and rolling them for United Way. For an interesting twist, you can make it so that other types of coins are worth negative points. For example, a nickel would cancel out five pennies. This allows people to sabotage other teams while raising more money for United Way.
41.Something-a-Thon Walk-a-thon, dance-a-thon, skip-a-thon and other marathons are popular events. Have participants collect pledges for your event based on the number of hours danced, miles walked, etc&
42.Survivor create tribes (teams) to compete throughout your campaign for prizes. Hold luxury challenges every day where groups compete mentally or physically for a treat such as Coke, candy, or raffle ticket. Some suggestions for luxury challenge include the following: United Way quiz, office mini-putt game, Canadian trivia game, and scavenger hunt.
43.Turkey Feathers this event can be tied into Thanksgiving theme and can be modified for almost any theme. Have employees purchase paper feathers for a dollar. Then have employees award these feathers to their favorite member of senior management team (you should get their permission before holding this event) At the end of the day, announces the biggest Turkey of the day (the one with the most feathers) and award a prize.
