spacer United Ways Rotary Children's Fund Grants 2008

The United Way of Bruce Grey is handing out cash!

October 30th, 10 am
United Way Centre 380 9th Street East

Through a partnership with area Rotary Clubs and the Winterama event held annually in February, the United Way is pleased to announce this years grants issued from the United Ways Rotary Children's Fund.

The United Way and Rotary Winterama will also renew their partnership for the 2008 event.

Total Funds Requested $ 25 205.00
Total Funds Available $ 21 660.00

Financial support for the Fund came from Rotarys Winterama event, Galaxy Cinemas Starlight Film Festival and the United Way of Bruce Grey Board Fund. The United Way has stipulated that any dollars raised by children and youth are allocated to this annual fund.

Since the United Way Rotary Childrens Fund was created in 2006, the United Way has given away over $75 000 in additional funding to its agencies, supporting children and youth projects throughout the region.

spacer Five Rotary Clubs of District 6330, comprising clubs from Wiarton, Port Elgin, Hepworth/Shallow Lake, Tara and Southampton will host an exciting fund-raising event. There will be opportunities to snowmobile, skate, cross-country ski and Rotary is proudly introduce a new event for this year: Snowshoeing

Rotary is also delighted to renew the partnership with the United Way of Bruce Grey. As a result of this new relationship, half of the money raised through participants' pledges will be donated to worthy non-profit children's programs through the newly created United Way Rotary Children's Fund. This is an effective way to support the high quality programs that offer services to needy children and youth in this region.

"Many of our agencies are so focused on fundraising to simply cover the overhead costs of the programs they deliver that the extras are simply out of reach. For example, Bruce Grey Children's Services residential program could use new board games, but they need to pay overhead costs first, and there is never enough money, this children's fund will allow these agencies to cover these costs." United Way Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn explains.

The other half of the money will be divided evenly among the five Rotary Clubs that are running this event. This money will stay in our local areas and will go to other worthy causes for children and youth.
